Region VII Disaster Health Response Ecosystem

TITLE: Electric Utility System Preparedness & Response

DESCRIPTION: This presentation will engage healthcare facilities in a comprehensive discussion on emergency preparedness and response strategies the electric utility industry. As critical infrastructure, healthcare facilities rely on uninterrupted power to sustain life-saving operations, making proactive planning and coordination with electric utility partners vital. This presentation will offer an introduction to the electric utility industry, including preparedness and response priorities and processes.
OBJECTIVES: By the end of this session, participants will:
Be able to identify common vulnerabilities in the electric grid and understand how these risks impact healthcare organizations.
Describe the electric utility organizations emergency response protocols and how healthcare facilities are prioritized during outages and disasters.
Explore opportunities for collaborative planning such as joint drills and tabletop exercises.

The 2026 Colorado Emergency Management Conference is the state’s premier annual gathering for emergency management professionals committed to preparedness, response, and resilience. Hosted by CEMA and Colorado DHSEM in partnership with sectors ranging from public works to volunteer organizations, the conference features a robust agenda of expert-led sessions, hands-on workshops, and cross-sector discussions. Attendees will connect, collaborate, and share best practices, leaving them equipped with actionable tools to help build a safer, more resilient Colorado.

In 2026 we will focus on communication resource disruptions and how to turn lessons learned into lessons applied. For the first five years we focused on creating shared language and a shared understanding of the AFN resource framework and the CMIST memory tool. Going forward we will turn the shared understanding into action.
