As critical infrastructure, healthcare facilities rely on uninterrupted power to sustain life-saving operations, making proactive planning and coordination with electric utility partners vital. This presentation will offer an introduction to the electric utility industry, including preparedness and response priorities and processes.

OBJECTIVES: By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Be able to identify common vulnerabilities in the electric grid and understand how these risks impact healthcare organizations.

  • Describe the electric utility organizations emergency response protocols and how healthcare facilities are prioritized during outages and disasters.

  • Explore opportunities for collaborative planning such as joint drills and tabletop exercises.
